One Word – A Poem

Hi everyone!

So I thought I’d publish a new poem on here again!

I wanted to experiment a little with the idea of beginnings, and how everything starts, what our beginnings all come down to, and I also wanted to create something that was less… me. The style is still me, and it’s something that would be personal to me, but in general the character, and his voice are meant to be that of an elderly man, but that’s all I want to say. I enjoy the ambiguity of poetry, so make of it what you want, what’s personal to you and let me know if you like it! 🙂

One Word

A word. One word that destroyed and created.

It left me in love, in awe, and in pain.

It started wars that had no true end.

It ended wars that should never have been.

You had said it to me that first day,

In a tender voice of reluctance and fear.

You were scared to approach me,

To meet me, to speak to me, that first day.

And when I said it back to you,

The wheels of our life had begun.

Now, as I stand over you,

Dressed in the suit you bought me,

Tears wetting the collar,

Peers, their hands resting on my shoulder,

Each whispering their apologies,

I want to say it one more time.

My dear, I will not say goodbye.

My dear, I will only say Hello.
